I got an email today about a young LBGT+ youth who was in the hospital for suicidal tendencies.
I looked at some of the cards I had made in the past and nothing really struck me as right to send to this person. So, I wrote up what I wanted to say and then tried to think of what a card would have on it that would match that sentiment. I don't think it is 100% right as it looks a bit sparse (so if you have ideas please please let me know), but this is what I came up with.
To make this card,
I used the Locker Talk cartridge.
Technically, it is supposed to be a globe, but I wanted just the Earth. Maybe I am missing something, but the oceans and the continents are in the same cut and super close to each other, so I was worried about how I would get them in different colors.
Here is how I did it and I am still amazed it worked out so well. I lined my two papers right on the 6-inch mark. I probably could have used something else, but centered it, just to make it easier on my brain.
Then I cut the Earth at size 3 relative at the position: 4.10 horizontal, 0 vertical. This ended up being right on the money (The lighting made the green look weird here).
For the outside sentiment, I am still having issues with getting the cut ones to look nice, so I used the Cricut with a sharpie ultra fine pen. I made the letters at size .3 relative and had them positioned at 3 horizontal, 4 vertical (for the first line 4.5 vertical for the second line).
I wrote out the card with the wording I had decided on (since it isn't a quote or anything, I am okay with sharing). I wrote this before attaching and I took the picture before I added the name at the top for privacy. Then I glued it all down. I used a glue stick for everything on this project, I would have done the inside with the tape roller, but it ran out, those go fast!
I also decided to take a picture of all of the other little pieces that I added inside the envelope.
I would normally have added more stickers but didn't have anything for a teen that likes "all things geeky" so I added the Doctor Who quote, which is the first time I have done one of those.
After photographing, I did add the name to the top of the bookmark as well.
This week, the nation learned of the death of the “Notorious RBG” who was a giant of justice, a champion for equality and progress. So I am recommending that you learn more about this powerful woman (I don't have specific books, there are so many), so that her memory may be a blessing, calls us to carry on her legacy, that we become a credit to her name.
This is incredible <3
